Lying the political way

Politics is the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich by promising to protect each from the other.
Oscar Ameringer, the "Mark Twain of American Socialism"

There is one kind of globalization going on, which doesn't need any changes in the laws: the universal contempt for politicians and politics. While democracy is holy in the Western world, politics and its high priests are taken lowly.

The profession of politician ranks among the ones held in lowest esteem nowadays. Were politicians in the past any better. This is a mistaken assumption.

There are many reasons why politicians lie. The voters, i.e. the people are one of them. People want to hear what they want to hear. Very often they prefer deception and fraud to the truth. Politicians and parties who want to win an election - and who doesn't - won't have a chance if they don't lie.
