Bilingual Upbringing of Children

This section is a historical part of bklein.de. I first published material about bilingual upbringing in 1997 and substantially revised it in 2004. It grew out of our own family experience of raising children with German and English, even though both parents are native German speakers.

The focus is therefore somewhat unusual: bilingual or multilingual upbringing in a language that is not a native language of either parent. The pages below preserve my experiences, terminology, literature notes and observations from that period. Some research references and external links are historical and should be read in that context.
